Ok, I think it is finished, but I'd like to know from you what do you think on this: maybe I have gone over the restauration... I have added also an old (more than 100 years old) piece of rope, maybe it is better to remove it? what's your idea? and about the over wrapping? it's better the first version with a more simple wrapping? Sorry for the dark pics and the others with flash on, but here is already night...

How much far one can go with the restoration?

IMO it's fine; I'd even darken up the overwrap a bit .
Are you having second thoughts ?

Hi Rick,

I was thinking that maybe I have esagerated when I have added also the red rope... You know that if you believe that the rope is like an amulet, well in this case is really a non-sense to put the rope, but I have done this because another explanation, as Cato says, is that this pieces of rope were used also to assure a better grip...
About the overwrap is just a bit clearer than the wrap under, just the flash do not show the real color
