Thank you Rick and Jim,
I see what you mean ... and i share your conclusion  .I had a look to 'Checkering and Carving of Gun Stocks' in the web book. It is more about stocks checkering; but i can see African natives exuberating in their fashion, as i also know about carving animal heads (game, dogs ...) in European stocks.
