Ariel: If you want to restore the resin ring, get some jewlers pitch. It is a black resin type of a substance. Heat it up a little so it becomes warm and a little runny, dig out a spoonful. When it becomes cool enough you can take it and wrap it around the base of the blade and mold it just like clay. It can be made to look exactly like the original. To make it look old, rub a little dirt over it while it is not quite hardned. It will give it an appropriate aged look and will be hard to tell from an original.............Dave
