Klewang from Banjar (South-Borneo) for comments!
Hi all,
I wonder if anyone has a similar klewang in his posession, and maybe drop some pictures here on this forum to discus this kind of sword. I know very little about it, only it originates from Banjar (near Banjarmassin). It probably dates between 1830-1850. Unfortunately I have one without a sheath. BUT I LIKE IT! Hi Michael, You are right. In some way I missed that thread. I found also similar pics of these parang in the database of the National Museum of Ethnology In Leiden. Last edited by Javagolok; 28th August 2007 at 08:26 PM. |

Hello Maurice,
Yes, that's some of the related swords. But I wouldn't dare to publish those pictures here based on the copyright. Michael |

Klewang? Mandau?
I thought I knew what this was until I read these notes!
The larger blade 21", overall in scabbard 30". Bone pommel carved as a ? mythic animal with hair tufts. Scabbard bound with rattan. A second rough scabbard is attached by rattan toggles, containing a 3" blade on a 12" haft. this scabbard has traces of hair and a wisp at the end. Opinions welcome |

Hello Kate,

That would warrant a seperate thread. Try attaching the pics just before posting the message - some editing steps can result in already uploaded pics going missing... Regards, Kai |
