As for general styles to suggest feel free Gentlemen. Perhaps suggestions recommending specific sources to Lew would be more appropriate if done via PM. |

Hey Lew. That bottom one looks like a peninsula blade to me too and i would guess Terengganu as an origin (Kai Wee and Shahrial, jump in and correct me if i'm wrong). It's a sweet blade BTW. But that top one looks more like a Bali keris to me. Could be wrong, but that's my feeling. How to hilt these i think involves other questions. I realize the difficulty in getting sheaths for these here in the states. Do you plan on eventually getting them fully dressed? If so i think the choice of hilt is somewhat dependent on how you sheath them as well. The full ensemble should be completely harmonious with it's parts. If you don't plan on having sheaths made i would say it is really up to your personal tastes since there are quite a few appropriate styles for every origin. Also depends on how much you are willing to spend since hilts can run anywhere from $30 up into many hundreds of dollars. I will PM you on some sorce possibilities. |

Hmmm... I remember this lot, the 1st piece looks Javanese to me (although it looks polished). The 2nd piece, looks like a Kelantanese blade from Northern Malaysia, Peninsular Malaysia. For the hilt and hilt ring, as David mentioned depends on your sheath form. Jawa Demam, Perkaka and Kerdas hilts are suitable types. Jawa Demam hilt form with suitable hilt ring. Perkaka hilt form with suitable hilt ring. Kerdas hilt form with suitable hilt ring. Some of the other Peninsular hilt-ring (pendokok) form, to consider. [link] Are you planning to make fittings for the entire blade or just add hilt and hilt/ring. If it is difficult for you, maybe you would want to consider 'give it' to Singapore like Kai did [link]. |
