Yesterday evening I cleaned the blade of this little fellow. On top of the handle is a gold cap, very finely worked, in the middle a blue (glass?) stone, a brown horn scabbard mouth, silver fittings. 24,7 cm inside scabbard, 22,5 cm without, blade without bolster 16 cm. Possible Minang.

Detlef, this IS a little gem. The stone looks like glass, and I wonder if the gold is actually gold wash over silver.

Nice piece. Will you etch the blade?

Hi Jose,

Thank you! Yes, I also think that the stone is glass. When the top cap is gilded it will be indeed gilded and not gold washed. When it would be only gold washed you would see at some places the silver under the wash, this isn't the case.
The lamination is very fine and wouldn't show a great contrast, but maybe I will give it a try.

Regards,
Detlef
