Old reworked crossbow winch from the 16th century. Crossbow winches were already a marvel of technology at the time, they were partly rebuilt and used for other purposes. Similar pieces can be found in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, for example. Inventory numbers A393, A462, A390.

Rebuilt crossbow winches were also presented at Kunst und Krempel

The recess in the winch housing suggests an old brass mark (unfortunately no longer available)
