Help with some French swords
Hello. I’m trying to get some information on these two military French swords. I figured this would be a great place to start. I’m also trying to do some internet searching on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A picture of the entire sword would be helpful. Also you might get more detailed information if you split them into two threads.

Yes I know. Was pressed for time and wanted to at least get something posted. These were quick photos I was able to take of the inscriptions and guards. I’ll post full pictures when I get home from work. I know some knowledgeable people here can decipher the writing/markings.

Klingenthal was a major French government arsenal which was run by the
Coulaux brothers who oversaw the business. The letter stamps indicate the name of the inspectors and directors at the time and are useful for dating to within a narrow range. Under the 1810 and 1823 government contracts Coulaux were only permitted to add their name to weapons produced for the commercial market. After 1836 production for government contracts was wholly moved to Chatellerault while Klingenthal continued to produce tools and weapons for private purchase and it remained in the ownership of the Coulaux family until 1962 when it finally closed. |
