Default Beja shield with battle scars

Love this shield. If it could talk.... It seems it has seen a lot of action!! There are two large repairs. The cuts have been stapled back together. Sword slash and a spear thrust?? There are three smaller cuts that have not been repaired. Too small for spears? Maybe shotel hits?? Your comments, please.

Hello Ron, this is nice group. The shield remembers a lot, for sure, it has interesting original repairs. Maybe they repaired the damages caused during the active duty of such shields by iron stitches, while the damages caused during the production, when the shield was still soft, by leather stitches, that times ?
(I like such groupings- I hope you donīt mind adding mine of the same etnic gropups, it was posted some time ago...)

Very nice shield Roanoa, that one has seen some action for sure. I do not have a shield like that but I recalled having a photo in my collection with just such a shield. The photo is by Adelphoi Zangaki and from late 19th century. In this photo the warrior is holding a spear rather than a sword.

My guess is that you shield suffered spear damage while camel jousting
