Hello,
I can't find the origin of this bugi keris. The handle is very beautiful but I haven't seen any similar on keris bugis. (But I still know very very little about bugi weapons ![]() I know that these people are settled on several Indonesian islands and that there are small differences in the sheaths and handles according to the geographical zones. (The photos were taken just after the reception of the Keris, since the blade was cleaned.) ![]() |

Bugis weapons often confuse me on origin, but it suggests some part of Sumatra to me. Perhaps others can pinpoint better.

This does a look a bit like a Sumatran Jawa demam hilt.
Thanks, Leif |

![]() This hilt is certainly interesting (seems to have decent age - albeit a bit coarsely carved details). If pressed hard, I might tend towards one of the smaller sultanates along the Sumatran East coast (Siak, etc.). The scabbard (with possibly replaced buntut) and the pretty generic sepokal blade don't help placing it for me... Regards, Kai |

I agree with the opinions from the other members, the blade looks original to the kris and the Jawa Deman hilt is a rare specimen.

I don't will rule out the Sumatran East coast origin but I have seen some similar handles in this Jawa Deman style which were attributed to Sumbawa. And when I get pressed I would agree with this for the complete keris.

Yes indeed, this Jawa Deman hilt is quite unusual with these geometrical panels.
