won this on a certain auction site, 35.5 in. LOA, 2 in. across the end.
described as from vanuatu. dyed fibre wrap, now faded. pig bristle (?) collar. i seem to recall seeing a similar one somewhere here, can't find it tho. probably in vanadoo's posts somewhere looks like palm wood to me. nice patina. |

That a lot club for your money and a good price. There is some issue with the patina and the colour discrepancy between whole club and carved decoration. I think you can detect some stain into the carved decoration. However it is a New Hebrides club with later added decoration. Without these issues { I love using that word now it seems to be losing favor} knowing how purist collectors are, you would have to pay a great deal more for a club of this form. I have this one which is just under 32"

I AGREE WITH TIM. IT'S LIKELY A MORE RECENT PRODUCTION (POST WW2.) STAINED AND PERHAPS USED FOR DANCE OR CEREMONIES. REGARDLESS A NICE EXAMPLE WITH NICE CARVING, THE OLD ONES ARE USUALLY MORE PLAIN.
