Bowie knife ID

Hi all,

A typical bowie knife but with a strange handle.
Total lenght is 43 cm. The handle feels like bone or ivory.
Any idees about the origin of this strange thing?

Well, if I had to guess I'd say Chinese by the overall shape of it. But, like I said it is just a guess.

I'm inclined to think the west from the choil, overall blade profile, and the sheath (though the guard along with the execution of the clip-point does have a Chinese 'falvoring' to it IMO). Does the blade have a flat grind or a hollow grind? Also, is the tang threaded (I'm assuming it is, as you removed the 1-piece grip)? Could you post a picture of it?

The checking on the end of the grip leads me to think it may be older than the blade...

I tend to think that this is an Africanised Bowie knife. The guard was probably 's' shaped originally but, one of the 'arms' was removed or broken off.

It could also be a vintage or even modern article from America, Mexico or South America.

The tang is threaded.
The blade has a hollow grind.
The checking on the end of the grip is heavy (130 gr.)

Western style blade copper fittings ivory hilt western style leather sheath? My opinion is its made up or a composite piece
