A few photos of a pair of Cinquedea- looking for info!
Attached three photos. Looking for information regarding Origin, Age and history. Volunteered to research a collection of edged weapons for a local museum. We plan on displaying the collection this spring. Thanks in advance for any and all help! Bing

these are called cinquedea, short swords, not daggers, coming from the words; Ditta cinque (blade is five fingers wide). these swords were popular in the late 15th century and early 16th century and have an Italian origin.
whether these 2 swords are original, can unfortunately not be determined based upon these pictures. Is is possible to post better pictures, a close up of the guard, these guards are at the majority of cinqueda's riveted to the blade. also from the side of the grip where most of the cinquedea's have brass embossed strips with Latin or Italian text. Also please of the filigree grip rosettes (grip rivets) which hold the bone or ivory grip plates. and if there are any small brass inlayed marks or remnants of etching also a picture of these will help of course. best, |
