Red face This one needs some repair

I got this piece some time ago in a swap. I knew it was damaged, but the fittings looked good on the pictures.

My guess is that it's a shamshir. Don't know the origin. The blade has been cut down by a previous owner. Probably, it was broken, hence...

I'm certain the fittings are made out of silver. They are great. The sheath can easily be taken apart.

The covering on the sheath (which was already renewed) has deteriorated. So I wonder what kind of material would be needed to give it a new covering.
