Rhino Horn Knobkerrie ?

I've come across this interesting reference to rhino-horn knobkerries in East Africa, from the book "The Great Rift Valley" by J W Gregory 1896.

It illustrates two points :-

a) Rhino-horn knobkerries were owned by important people (chiefs), perhaps
as a symbol of authority.

b) It seems they had a ceremonial type of function.
