Default IS THIS SWORD CHINESE? IF NOT WHAT IS IT?

I have had this sword for sometime, but have never really been sure of its true origin. The only thing I know for sure is that it was bought in Cambodia, sometime in the 1980s.
The hilt is wound in woven brass wire, and the pommel is iron which shows some sign of having been guilded at some stage. The rag thru the loop is as found. A pierced 2 3/4 inch diameter guard of brass with sign of incised decoration.
The 22 inch (560mm) blade is 1/2 inch thick at the tang, and tapers evenly to the tip. The blade shows definate signs of being of folded construction.
Although there is a scabbard which came with it, it is definately not the original, so I have not included pics of it.
Overall length of item is 30 1/2 inchs.
ANY IDEA PLEASE AS TO TRUE ORIGIN??
Regards Stuart
