Default Indian buckler for coments

Please Gentlemen, give your coments on this item.
Billed as Indian, end 18th century. Elephant hide.
Its width is about 45 cms ( near 18" ). One centimeter thick, with a narrow upturned rim. Original cushion and iron rings.
Six boxes ... a bit unusual; four bosses are more often seen, right ?
The decoration is mostly gone. The seller says some of it is ( was ) wording, but i fail to discern that.
Thanks in advance.
Fernando
