Default South Pacific Club, Sailor Art, Missionary Cane ?

I recently acquired this piece which is a mystery to me;The carvings remind me of the clubs from Samoa or Fiji, but the writing looks like maybe the native population tried to mimic Western writing to add "mojo," to this item.It could be a carved item from some sailor or maybe done by a missionary.
The club measures 31", and it is made of a very dense and heavy wood and it would be an effective weapon.
