52nd Annual Winter Antiques Show Report
For those of you who don’t know, the annual winter antiques show in NYC (66th and Park Ave armory) is being held this week. The show is always held as a benefit for the East Side House Settlement. The fair has the usual ridiculously expensive artwork (think Rembrandt and Picasso) and furniture but I noticed some interesting things. Tribal weaponry is almost never represented or any other weaponry for that matter, save for Peter Finer’s amazing booth. But war clubs and tribal shields always seem to exist in some form of weapon/artwork overlap.
I was shocked to see Moro war clubs going for as high as fifty thousand dollars and several shields, which broke the twenty thousand dollar mark. Anyway, if you have the time you should check the show out (dress well) the 20$ admission fee is well worth Peter Finer’s booth, never mind the war clubs and assorted tribal art works. |
