Caucasian kindjal, akinakis, sword - Tiflis XIXc
I have the pleasure to offer an outstanding example of Caucasian kindjal,
probably 200 years old, from the famous swordmaker in Tiflis, Georgia. Motif on silver Niello scabbard depicts an ancient symbol of the Tree of Life - the same relict of some prehistoric religion, which was widespread also, for example, in Central Europe, esp. on Carpathian highlanders` ciupagas, thus, connecting somehow, in their ancestry, very distant ethnic groups. Also the lineage of kindjals - tracing back to Bronze Age akinakis - is on par with the symbol of Tree of Life. According to E.G. Astvatsaturyan (Оружие Народов Кавказа) such sign of star as is visible on the blade was used in Tiflis in the early XIX century. The blade itself is very sharp, light, 40cm long and 4.4cm wide. Length in scabbard is 60cm. Very good condition. ....http://nomadicsonblog.wordpress.com/...y-mean-part-2/...
