Another Moro Spear to Examine
This spear came from the auction at the Timonium show and needed considerable clean up. The blade shows a forging method we have seen on krisses, that is, a hardened edge and a laminated center panel. In this case an etch brought out a very dramatic, almost black, edge that nicely highlights the laminated center,
I have no idea why, but of the dozen or so Moro spears with wavy blades I have seen, they generally are not particularly well mounted, with lesser or poorer quality ferrules and even rougher or unfinished hafts. This seems to be an exception, though the haft here is far from the best I have seen and appears partially rough or unfinished. It never had a butt piece. Perhaps we can have included in this thread some other examples of Moro spears with wavy blades. Dimensions: Overall about 6ft.7in. Spear blade: about 12in.
