Pardon my ignorance, Gentlemen .
Why do you/we call these 'things' swords and not (decorative, symbolic,ritual ... you name it)) objects with the shape/form of swords ?
... For the sake of the term meaning .
... As surely you will not go out and do any 'swording' with them .
