A fine throwing spear - Origins ??
Another spear to add to the collection An excellently made throwing spear. Beautifully balanced with a broad leafed blade with a very 'thick' mid rib. The socket is facetted as is the butt spike, all skillfully forged ...I believe the shaft....although relatively old, is younger than the 'metal work'. The 'business' end is extremely sharp and it's design would produce a wide, narrow wound. I feel it is too ornate for hunting and feel that this spear is more likely for personal protection / war. The bands on the shaft are aluminium so probably dates the shaft mid 20c ...but think the metal work is more likely late 19th.
Any ideas to origin ? All comments gratefully received, thank you Regards David . |
