Thanks Ed, that helps, but really dont know what place to look for that marking. There has always been a broad collectors group focused on scientific instruments and the like, and used to see them advertised in nautical memoribilia catalogs sometimes. Wallis & Wallis catalogs used to often have a miscellenia section that had misc. WWI stuff militaria etc.

One place that always seemed helpful was the National Army Museum in London, and the curators there deal heavily in cataloging these kinds of items.
While I dont know the marking, I think these resources might prove helpful in at least possibilities.
