Howdah daab from Laos end of 18th to mid 19th century for sale
I offer here a rare Howdah daab or daab gun chai fom Laos, mid of the 18th to the end of the 18th century, possible made for an elephant. It's a monster, 116,5 cm long with a blade from 71 cm, 2576 gram!
The daab gun chai is from Luang parabang Laos and is from middle to end of 18th century, from the time of the war against the Burmese when the Laos kingdom fought with him and the Thais from north and south Siam to rid the whole region of Burmese, it is why the region is still free today, this happened just before French colonial occupation of Laos and Vietnam, and Brit occupation of Burma as colonial Brit Burma. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burmes...5%E2%80%931767) The blades were made by smiths from China and Vietnam who both helped make the weapons for that campaign as Laos army was not well armed so needed help, and King Taksin being half Chinese likely arranged this help for laos Luang prabang kingdom and Vientiene kingdom so that they could fight with him against the Buirmese. The collar is made from samrit alloy (a brass alloy with gold content), the handle is from a buffalo horn. I will add some additional pics soon. Asking price is $550 / 507 Euro Schipping fees: US $50 EU 18,- Euro Germany 8,- Euro Contact me by email: deuterdetlef@gmail.com Last edited by Sajen; 6th April 2024 at 03:34 PM. |
