A favorite among the Sikhs, if you go to Amritsar to visit the Golden Temple, you will find the souvenir shops selling replicas (some are quite good!), and many Sikhs wearing them as 'Kirpan's' (the Sikh holy dagger).
An old Sikh term, although I have no written sources, is 'Jaam Dhar' - literally 'Demons Tooth'. It should also be noted, that as far as I know, 'Jambiya' isn't a word that is widely used in the Indian languages, the Indian word is 'Khanjar'. Regards Runjeet |
