It looks to me similar to the Chinese Yan Yue Dao.

Thai fighting sticks
I have had these a long time. I bought them in the UK as " Thai Fighting Sticks"
Dimensions are, Blades 11 inches with a 13 inch hilt. Hilts are wood and silver. These have never been sharpened. During my years working in the Far East I once saw a demonstration using these, somewhere around the Chaing Mai area in Thailand . Very impressive, each combatant used two and the sparks did fly ! These are really cool.
Royston, When you say Never been sharpened, do you mean that the edges are blunt? As in never been sharp? Curious, as they look like nice old pieces. I wouldn't have placed them as demonstrative or decorative. These are all really, really nice either way. |

my thoughts were that as these are used as pairs, one could be used to 'hook' an arm or the neck, unbalancing, blocking or pulling the opponant towards you ....as you 'slice' with the other Best David |
