Default What happened to IKRHS?

Any idea what has happened to the International Khukri Research and Historical Society website? It's been dead the last couple of days.
Spiral or Rod, any news?

Someone has maliciously broken in and tried to overwrite the forum. We are working on a backup that wasn't infected. We will probably be out of commission for some yet unknown length of time.
Thanks for your interest and support.

Hi Berk. I noticed, but I thought it was only a temporary problem related to the service. I am sorry to know about this. Who would be so interested in doing this kind of thing? It must be a very sick person, as this would do benefit nobody. Please writte me if I can help in someway to restore the forum.
My best regards

Gonzalo

This is a tragedy, Many people have worked hard on this forum, with many great contributions, it will be a terrible shame if this is all lost, Derek and others are working hard on it. I would like to thank you all for your kind thoughts. Rod

Lightbulb Backups for our forum

I am sure our forum discussions are being backed up regularly.

I am not new to these disasters. There was an 'Indian History Forum' on Orkut which had several hundred discussions on very important topics dealing with Indian Sociology and history. And one fine day. middle of this year, everything was gone. Someone had hacked into the forum and deleted all the threads.

We should be careful too.

Yes its a crying shame, Id like to believe the politics, egos & money making intent of the kukri world wernt involved, but sadley I belive they were.

Hopefully Ill be proved wrong. Its not what true collecters are about.

But its also true some people work from agendas. I have been a victim of them before in the kukri world, tis a shame, I realy do like kukri & discussian & learning about them & other ethnographic weapons.

Why does some cretin have to damage a forum that hasn't caused any harm to anyone that I've ever seen. If I can donate to the effort to rebuild IKRHS and help make it bullet proof just let me know, I've always got a few bucks squirreled away for just this type of situation.

Warren,
Thank you for the gracious offer, as well as for the expression of support. We have all been gratified by the response of those who have found our little web resource to be useful. I am at least thankful that whoever did this chose to attack the work of a few amateur scholars in an esoteric field, instead of some website working to combat disease, hunger or war.
We are exploring the possibility of rebuilding with new software which will be more resistant to attack, though that will entail additional costs to our all-volunteer operation. I will also be seeking assistance from the Texas Attorney General's Office with possible prosecution for felony computer crimes.
I will keep everyone advised of developments, and again wish to express my thanks for the good wishes.

I'm sorry to hear about the hacking of the website.

Hope it gets rebuilt soonest.

On the subject of making backups, I'm not expert on the subject. But I heard that the backup copy has to be located at least anywhere between 100 to 500 miles away, so that in case of a catastrophe, the backup has a better chance of surviving.

Just a thought ...

Default WE'RE BACK!

We are very pleased to welcome all our old (and new) friends back for discussion of historical and antique kukris.
Please point your browser to our new address:

http://www.ikrhs.com/forums/

We have a new server, and believe the entire database is intact.
The search function isn't working yet, but it seems ungrateful to complain because the card catalog is missing, when you feared the whole library had burned down .
We want to thank all who shared their good wishes for our return.
Season's greetings to everyone. Please come visit, and celebrate our grand re-opening by posting a photo, a question, or just a shout out to say "Hello".

P.S. - If you encounter any glitches other than the non-existent search, please let us know.
