Throwing spear, Sudan?
Such spearheads have already been discussed on the forum. This is a short spear from my collection.
Specifications: Total length – 690 mm, tip length – 415 mm The wooden shaft is covered with the skin of a Nile monitor lizard; it can be assumed that the spear is from the Blue and White Nile regions. I'd be glad to hear your comments. |

Hi Yuri,
Nice and interesting spear! Have a look here: https://african-weapons.com//gallery?african-spears It's the site I use when I want to identify something from Africa. Special when it comes to spears! Regards, Detlef |

Hi Detlef, thanks!
I know about this site, but there are no copies with such handles. You can see something similar here: https://ertribal.com/index.php/triba...-monitor-sudan Regards, Yuri |

When it comes to the spearhead I see some similarity with this one from the Dinka people. https://african-weapons.com//gallery...on-point-41-cm

I wonder if there is a missing shoe part to this spear? It is not made to throw like a dart or a javelin type spear and most have some kind of shoe like a spike, knob or rectangular shoe.

Perhaps this is a dart, or perhaps a later alteration, I don’t know, which is why I asked for advice. |
