Batak Sword

See Trad Weapons fig 431 page 109

I am sure that this is a Batak Piso Sanalenggam.

No scabbard.

Decorated brass ferrule.
Horn Hilt.

Not something you see every day, in fact it's the first one that I have owned.

All comments welcome and are there any more out there?

NICE WIRE WORK ON THE BRASS FERRULE, IS THE HANDLE WOOD OR HORN? HOW IS THE BALANCE IT LOOKS LIKE A GOOD HEAVY CHOPPER THAT HAS SEEN LOTS OF USE AND WOULD HAVE SOME STORIES TO TELL.

I agree Royston. This is a very nice example of a quite rare sword. The scabbards for these are most unusual and interesting.

Yes, a Piso Sanalenggam, nice very old example. Sadly seems the blade very pitted. Rare sword.

Obviously there are not many around.

Charles, is the scabbard wide throated or is there a cut away at the back to allow entry ?

Detlef, it is not badly pitted, more discoloured with faint pitting. It should clean up well.
