Default Powder? Flask ID needed

Picked this up a while back. Supposed to be some kind of powder flask. Not water tight. Any ideas anyone?

Hi, Are you sure it's a powder flask? is there any residual smell around the spout that would indicate any other use, maybe a medicinal flask of some kind? I can't place the style of decoration. At first I thought Caucasus/ Russian, but I can't really back that hunch up.

Hi Bryan

I honestly don't know what it is. The seller described it as a powder flask, but I have my doubts.
There is no obvious smell apart from dusty old metalic etc.
Here's a better pic.
Thanks
Gene

Is that a suspension ring at the neck?...... and is there also one on the other side?
If it is, then its is obviously designed to be attached to something. I DO think "powderflask" but from where??????????? Have you had a look inside to see what the residue colour is?

Hi Stu,
Just one suspension ring on that side. Other side is the same as the visible one, just without the loop.
Residue.. well its grey/black.
Cheers

Still could be a powderflask though, even with only one ring. Just one of those mystery objects we find from time to time!
ANOTHER project??

I suspect this is a snuff flask from Nigeria/Cameroon borders. I have this tobacco flask. As can be seen there are decorative elements with strong similarity. This sort of work can be observed on jewellery and weapons. I am not an expect but somehow I do not think it is from the African west coast with many centres famed for their lost wax casting. The size is pretty much the same.
