Hello All Help Please
Hello all,
I am new to the forum. I have a small collection going that I hope one day, to be a very nice collection in size and quality. I am very picky. I have come across three items in which I can not figure out. I know what they are of course, but have no history, what part of the world they are from, what date could be on them..... Boggled. I will post some pics here shortly to see if you all can come up with anything on them? I will attempt to get the best and most detailed pictures, but I will be working with a cell phone, and do not have much faith in the quality of the pictures. I hope to speak with you all soon. |

welcome aboard. cell phone pics can be OK, best taken outdoors in sunlight & shoot the picture like a sniper rifle. of course, there are some rifles no one can hit the broad side of a barn with. then spray & pray. you might get lucky.

Hello,
I think, all the items are from Africa. I see two shields and two spears. Here is a link to one of the shields, which i identify as a shield: http://www.flight-toys.com/artifacts/tb01.html and another one with african items: https://www.flickr.com/photos/41048903@N03/page1 (Page 3) The items seems to be old, but it is hard to judge, because africans are very skillful specialists in artificially aging. Kind regards Roland Last edited by Roland_M; 20th May 2015 at 05:56 PM. |

Hello, your spears looks like Danakil/Somali from horn of Africa.
I think the pictures are so small to see it well, so about the age - difficult to tell. |

Hi,
I can see one shield. As you already found out, it is classical Abyssinian gasha - shield. This is original one. To make fake Ethiopian shields of leather is not as easy as e.g. wooden masks from West Africa and other woodem staff. The spears are, I think, of Somali style. But could be from Ethiopia (e.g. Ogaden), too. Martin |

Thank you for additional pictures, the spears are not very old I think it maybe 50 years, or maybe even less. Regards.
