Default Curved 'dirk' for comment

Cant work this one out .... it is a curved dirk like dagger , 36 cm long , with brass and bone grip , brass mounted leather scabbard... hard to photograph are the etched words 'VICTORY' on one side and PURE STEEL on the other .

Hi Richmond,
60's/70's Indian styled like a Georgian Midshipmans dirk. Definitely modern Indian though.
My Regards,
Norman.

Thanks Norman .. I thought it was modern ... weird proclaiming Pure Steel as though it is a big deal !

sorry to say this but, zillons of these were sold on ebay, they are cheap sub-tourist quality. ebay even had a warning flyer on these. i bought one myself & posted it here when i was an eggling. found the ebay thingy after. one learns eventually by their mistakes. the superficial resemblance to naval dirks has grabbed many a victim.

they may have slightly different grips, but the blade with it's "pure steel" is a dead giveaway.

i keep mine as a reminder.

Oh well thats interesting to know .... I saw the general 'dirk' appearance but I thought it must be quite modern and suspected Indian ... the ridiculous thing is that I did not associate the 'Victory' inscription with HMS Victory .. instead I thought it must be some commemorative thing to do with the end of WW2 ! Its the weird 'PURE STEEL' that gets me .... that must be a real selling point ! I attach a pic of a nicer and hopefully original naval dirk of a similar style that I own ...
