Khyber Knife Restoration

Greetings folks!

Thought I would share with you a restoration I did on a khyber knife. What is unusual about this is the fact that it has a chased silver hilt. Only seen one other one and it is in a museum.

What I did was to replace the missing beaded silver rivets on the sides. These were based on the indentations around the holes where the originals were. I also made the finial pommel ring out of silver. Finally, I cleaned up the silver a little.

Great work as always Jose. Did you cast the rivets in one piece or did you built them by using small silver beads and soldering them together or something else? Once again, great work.

Thank you Robert.

I used precast silver pieces and carefully drilled holes into them. Then I used thick silver wire and very carefully and delicately balled the ends that stood out above the silver pieces with a blow torch while on the hilt. The pin is made of brass where I flattened the ends.

The finial ring I made out of a solid piece of silver ingot. Here is a picture of it in progress:

Thank you. I enjoy working on pieces like this (as well as Filipino/Moro stuff).
