Default A mace from ......????

I picked up something that might be a mace from somewhere. Is there someone who recognize this thing? It has a knob and the shaft and knob are dressed with copper. The copper head on the knob is rather thick and heavy.

Hello Tim,

All the stuff came together.

I don't think the rings were turned on a lathe. they are a bit to irregular for that. The grooves are not straight and that is what you get on a lathe.

Hi Henk, again this is odd .All comming from the same source one has to assume they are most likley Indo/Persian,though something seems wrong about that assumption to me.Tim

Tim,

Unfortunately I cann't give an explanation for it either. I bought it on an estate. It was one lot together, so it came from one source. But how and why in this way??? I don't know either. You never know how and why someone is collecting. The kukri and the tulwars were the items for me.

I bought this from Henk some years ago and have finally found out what is. It is a breach rod for a field gun. I recently saw a more modern one at a market. However I do have a picture of a Somali warrior brandishing one as a club. It would indeed make a jolly good club.

Tim,

I still wouldn't like to get a blow with it. I do remember this item and the feeling when i held it in my hands. A breach rod, I never would thought about that direction but looking at it I see it. I still wonder if it served as a mace or a club somewhere.
