				 | Sikh pesh kabz

Has anyone come across a sikh pesh kabz or kard? I have seen many sikh tulwars (inscribed) but no daggers? Any pictures would be great!

I will always remember years ago when researching swords used by Sikh's and was told by a Sikh, "if it was used by a Sikh, then it is Sikh". Ultimately what he was saying is that there are not distinct edged weapons used by Sikhs, and barring inscriptions in gurmukhi, it would be hard to classify a weapon as distinctly 'Sikh'. As far as I have known, most Sikh swords are not often inscribed, though obviously as with any type weapon, there will be cases. On that note, I would be most interested to see examples of Sikh inscribed tulwars as I confess I have never seen one. |

All practicing Sikhs are required to carry a steel knife or sword) on their person at all times as a requirement of their religion, they are called 'Kirpan' and come in a variety of styles. Most nations make allowance for them to carry them openly, including the UK.

I was asking in regards to 18th or 19th century sikh pesh kabz/kard/dagger. I should have made that clear... In terms of sikh swords with inscriptions, there are many in the Toor collection - which have been published in - In Pursuit of Empire: Treasures from the Toor Collection of Sikh Art |
