I'll bet that no one here on this forum has a keris like one of these two keris that I display here; often talked about, but I'm not sure if actual photographs of one of these keris have been shown here. it was presented to me by a person who went to Bali a year to go and ceremonially presented it to me last Friday night. What could I do? I accepted it with thanks and promised I'd add it to my collection. Actually, I'd be willing to bet that very few people on this forum have one of these in their collection.

The other one, externally similar, came from eBay for the price of the four orders of fish and chips. I bought it because, notwithstanding the external appearance, it looked as if it was a “real” blade.

Oh, and I hope everyone will notice that both blades have a very special characteristic: “The base piece or ganjar is also made one with the blade, and it is rarely seen and is called ganjar seiras.”

I won't tell you where I got that last quote about “the rare ganjar seiras,".

Actually Montino, i like the second one quite a bit. I've got a couple of these old blades in this "dance" style dress in in my collection and i quite like them as well. You might recall this one. http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13265
If i get a chance i'll take some shots of my other one.
But actually it is your first example that i am really jealous of. It is a perfect example of the "tourist" keris and i'd love one in my collection. Trouble is that i refuse to pay for it.

Very emotionally in a ceremony, and I realized what a rarity it was and accepted it immediately, knowing that there was a good chance that I would be the only one in this forum to have one....

Montino, I can understand that there's a little bit of fun here, but one of those keris is the real thing, and the other , although a tourist souvenir was thought by the giver to be real.

The dress is totally beside the point:- the essence of any keris rests in the blade, from an esoteric point of view the dress is of no account at all.

Within keris belief the giving of a keris is something that is regarded very seriously, and it is an extremely precious gift, regardless of the type or value of the keris. Many people hold the belief that if you receive 7 gift keris you become invincible in your chosen field.

Possibly we may be able to look at the gifts of your friend as a demonstration of respect on his part, and two steps towards invincibility for you, rather than as objects of fun.

I'm not sure if you were making fun here as well, but gonjo iras could indeed be considered "rare", or at least less occurring than a separate gonjo.
And just in case anyone thought i was kidding about wanting an example of a true "tourist" keris, i was not...
...nor was i kidding when i stated that i am unwilling to pay for one...
