African Spear
I've had this African spear (Luba?)for sometime and realize I know very little about it. Its a little over 5ft O.A. Thats iron wraped around the shaft. Whats the deal with the paint on the blade? Something done by the native owner or a collector? What group of people does this belong to? Period of manufacture? Look forward to your comments.

I think you have an 'Ngbandi'-spear from Congo. What intrigues me is the colour of the spearblade. I have seen African weapons with red or white coloured blades (sometimes both colours are used), but never green painted ones.
Here are some similar ones with different butt ends. |

Thanks Freddy.
Great spears you got there. I have done a search now that I know what to look for. Found lots of info. There are many variations. I especially like the variation with the hugh blade called Ndimba . I'll have to keep my eye open for these in the future. -Stephen* |
