Default Whatizzit???

I've had this thing for nearly twenty years, and still don't know what it is. May not be Ethnographic at all. My thought has always been, something to do with a musical instrument. The two "notches" may indicate some sort of adjustment, or tensioner? Any ideas???

It is a MacDonalds ruler ! A nice item for any collection

As for the wooden object.
I see letters, a house. My guess is maybe an arm rest of a rather fragile chair
