Hi Gentlemen, to share with you
Bou Saada - Algeria (in arabic: بوسعادة) localised 245 km South to Algiers It is also nicknamed "city of happiness" or "gate of the desert" oasis is the closest to the Algerian coast. Lying at the crossroads of major caravan routes of the Maghreb, linking the Zab at Mzab and Tell. this knife is from the oasis of Bou Saada, obtained by grinding a file. the ram's horn handle is assembled by ligation with thread of iron and brass wire. scabbard of wood is covered with leather decorated with pyrography. very classic belt knife from 19th à + Dom |

That is a nice example. I have one that seems of nicer quality as is yours but it has a 1941 engraved on the blade so I think these examples may be later in the 20th century 1930-40s? |

try a search in the forum here on 'Bou Saddi', there are a few interesting threads.
mine: most of the ones i've seen have a distinctive 'notch' at the tip (mentioned in one of the threads in the search). does yours? |
