Help with unidentified knife
New acquisition: was described as Philippines, I believe it may be mainland Southeast Asia (Laos or Vietnam)? Any assistance would be appreciated. I have not received the blade yet, blade length is around 12 in. I’ve added a photo of the spine and top of the scabbard. Thanks!

Hello Wildwolberine,
Your rare knife is indeed from the Philippines, Luzon. It's a typical bolo from the Pinatubo Negritos, see this thread: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...t=katana+luzon It's called hundáng. Attached are a few similar examples from the given thread. Regards, Detlef |

Does anyone have a copy or scan of the article “The Pinatubo Negritos : their useful plants and material culture” mentioned in the linked thread?
Thanks! |
