Kinjal/Qama for comment
Hi!
I've bought that kindjal/quama recently. It is rather an interesting one. Black horn handle (not cow horn!!), blade with three fullers on each side. The lenght of the blade is 41 cm. New wood for the scabbard and pork napa leather cover. I thik that it is late 19th century. The interesting thing it has silver koftgari decoration... Any comments about the origin? |

I am no expert, but the blade seems like Dagestan, probably Lak work. Scabbard and hilt can be Dagestani, and most likely it is somewhat earlier work, the only problem I have is with rivets/some other things - they are somewhat atypical for Dagestan and more southernish, like Azerjbajan and other Transcaucasian areas. May be trade blade in Azerbajan/Armenia mounts ?

Thank You Rivkin!
It seems that it is a quite common type of kindjal... Any further comments? |
