German Wootz???

Here is a European saber with German markings.
Look at the blade: it looks wootz to me.
Wootz in 18th century Germany?

Hi Ariel,

It looks like a nice mechanical Damascus. Very popular in Germany during the 19th century.

It does appear to be in the style of 18th century Austrian and German cavalry sabres, and the blade has most unusual fullering and profile, in addition to the clearly spurious man in the moon marking.

Hello All,
I do not know much about the swords of that location or time period, but the steel is more like that resulting from alloy banding than anything else.
The wave appears to come from the forging process (small radius fullers to draw out the steel).
I do not believe this to be wootz or pattern-welding.

This is a subject much debated in modern bladesmithing circles.
