Smile NEW CALEDONIA CLUB FORMS

NEW CALEDONIA IS A GROUP OF ISLANDS LOCATED NEAR MODERN VANUATU ( NEW HEBRIDES). THE ISLANDERS ARE REFEREED TO As KANAKA. THE MOST COMMON TYPES OF CLUBS ARE THE MUSHROOM OR PHALLIC SHAPED CLUBS AND THE BIRD HEAD FORMS. IN MANY OF THESE ISLAND GROUPS THE PRACTICE OF BLACKBIRDING OCCURRED. RAIDS WERE MADE AND PEOPLE CAPTURED AND TAKEN AS SLAVE LABOR TO OTHER ISLANDS BY THE SO CALLED CIVILIZED NATIONS. THIS LED TO A RADICAL CHANGE IN THE ISLAND SOCIETIES DUE TO THE MIXING OF CULTURES THRU-OUT THE REGION AND THE INTRODUCTION OF MISSIONARY BROUGHT CHANGE AS WELL.
