A. Zaky
Hi,
As I am trying to expand my book collection, as I was prowling around for titles, I found an outstanding amount of wealth written and compiled by this author, Abdulrahman Zaky. Does anyone know where I could lay my hands on his work? His titles include: "Important Swords in the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo" "Military literature of the Arabs" "As-Silâh fi l-Islâm. Vocabulary relating to arms and armour in Islam" "Introduction to the study of Islamic arms and armour" "Islamic armour: An introduction" "Islamic swords in Middle Ages" "Centers of Islamic sword making in Middle Ages" "As-Saif fî sadr al-Islâm" "Anwâ' as-suyûf al-islamîya wa-mumayyizâtihâ 'inda l-mu'allifîn al-'arab" "An-Nuqûsh az-zakhrafîya wa-l-kitâbât 'ala s-suyûf al-islamîya" "On Islamic swords" "As-Suyûf wa-ajnâsihâ. Risâlat Ya'qûb ibn Ishâq l-Kindî" "Medieval Arab Arms" |

I think so, as many of his work was used as a source by Ruel, Jim, and Manoucher, and Rick on Swordforum.
I must say I was bewildered when I saw his main area of interest, medieval weapons, work that even the late Dr.Uncal Yucel used alot in his book, "Islamic Swords and Swordsmiths" |

When I was a teenager I found his "El-Sayf fi El-Islam" (in Arabic) in my fathers bookcase. I was absolutely fascinated, It was the first time I realised there where so many different types of Islamic sword. Sadly I no longer know if my father still has this book. The illustrations were in black and white and rather poor quality, but there was stupendous wealth of information. I never seen any of his other books.

As usual with arabic publications, the illustrations are of very poor quality, yet, some of them contain great amounts of wealth on our subject.
Aqtai, can you please contact your father, and see if he still has that book. |
