Macana block-type club
Hello friends,
Sharing some pictures of my Guyana club (aputu) previosly in the Reubens collection. I am not really sure that the binding is as old as the club. I really like the inherent elegance of these small, yet dense, and I am sure, very useful clubs. Please feel free to share pictures of any other aputus out there! |

Nice macana. Reuben was a good friend of mine, sadly now passed away.
Yes, the binding is likely a later replacement, the original would be usually of a thin, soft cotton. |

Thanks guys!
Ken, clubs (or Guyana for that matter) is not my main expertise, so I dont feel confident putting an age on It. Although the patina (on the wood) seems good. Thanks Colin! That is also what I suspected from looking at pictures of museum examples and from readiing the article "The aputu - analysis of a war club form distinctive to The Guianas". The string on this one looks like it has been there for some time, though. I am curious to know how these clubs were carved and what kind of tools were used? Cheers, Thor |

You will not be happy and you want to send it to me I see no reason why it is not an an antique is the truest sense 100 year old. Not the easiest thing to find. would go nicely with my Guiana clubs.

Thanks Sajen!
I've been through all threads on Guyana clubs on here and the pictures from that collection are just insane to say the least Edit: Come to think, perhaps they are rare, because that guy has collected them all! Last edited by T. Koch; 16th October 2020 at 10:27 AM. |
