Default French sword for ID

Good Morning
Some friends of mine just found this sword under some floorboards in a house that they are renovating in France.
I know next to nothing about French swords so any information would be most welcome.
Thanks
Roy

It may benefit the owner to research the home for the people who lived there at the time this sword would have been in use. You may find the owner of the sword or at least narrow it down. The location of this sword is solid provenance if nothing else.

Hi Roy,
im thrilled to see an untouched-cleaned Napoleonic sabre , and I agree with Corrado its a Light Cavalry high rank officers sabre possibly for a member of the General staff or a General under the regime of Napoleon.
Great find of a rare and original piece !
kind regards
Ulfberth
