A Balkan Knife
Hi,
I have this knife from Balkans but I would like to know where exactly was manufactured. And something else: I found this amulet (?) that need translation. I know that it is not a weapon, but can anybody help me or suggest me another forum? |

Your knife is very much like mine. See below. All I know is that mine is regarded as Ottoman Empire 19th century Turkey from Balkans area. I wouldn't mind is someone else could narrow the gap on the identification of mine too. I suspect Bosnia. But I just don' know. Mine has engraving on the blade. On the one side is a snake, on the other some wavy patterns. |

I believe this knife is from Montenegro. There are similar examples from Boka Kotorska in Elgood's recent book on Western Balkan Arms and Armor, and there is another example, also attributed to MOntenegro in a little book by Hermann Historica called "Dolche und Messer aus dem Pesischen KulturRaum".

Αfter 7 years, thanks to my friend Hussein Hamdy Mahmoud Mohamed Genedy, I have a complete translation of the amulet. I prefer to upload his handwritten note.
