A new moro kris
Hi all, here is my new moro kris, but first of all i want to thank you three members of the forum: Philkid (Charles), Freddy and Battara (Jose) for the different but important help they gave me to help me to get this beauty Thank you dear friends !!!! This is, as Bill always says, the most important thing of this forum: the people!!!
The tail of the pommel is clearly a modern restoration (another wood) and also the scabbard seems recent, but i like it!! Comments are welcome |

The restorations are nicely done and it is a real beauty So I guess now that you are hooked on Moro blades you will have no use for your African collection so just throw it all in a big box and I will let you know where to ship it Congrats on a lovely kris. Btw it seems to be a nice old blade. Lew |

Flavio:
That's a very nice Maranao kris but I'm not fond of the repair to the pommel. It looks odd for the period (c. 1900) and I don't think it is consistent with a Mindanao piece (while the scabbard is). The original kakatua pommel would almost certainly have been much plainer with a short, sqare-ended, minimal crest. The carving on the kakatua is well done but not in keeping with the overall presentation of the sword IMO. Ian. |
