Default What did I buy?

Okay, so I had some Scotch and was browsing web sites while watching TV and I saw what was described as a “long Asian knife” offered by a vendor who mainly sells guns. It was only $50, so in a few clicks it was in the cart and then on its way to me. As soon as it went in the cart the pictures disappeared from the site so I could not even go back and review my purchase.
To me it looks like a short (Burmese?) Dah of indifferent quality.
Comments?

Yes, you are correct, it's a dha, relative recent. I think Thai but I am unsure.

Default inscription

Anyone have a clue about the inscription, either what it says or what language?

Default watermark

These are my personal copyrighted pictures. They are not from a commercial website. I just don't like to see my pictures spread without attribution.

I have sold like 20 copies of the book. Anyway, the book only has guns in it. None of the pictures posted on this forum are in the book.

The pictures are not objectionable. The watermark with your website is.

Please remove that website link and replace it with a copyright in your own name if you wish to discuss the object depicted. A watermark with a website address does not confer copyright to anyone. It is an advertisement.

Marcus, it wouldn't matter if you had only sold just one book, it is still a commercial site as its main purpose is to sell more books. It doesn't matter that none of these photos are in the book. You are certainly aware that there are many collectors of antique firearms on these forums and that you have an audience for selling your book here. An ad for this book would, of course, be most welcome in the Swap Forum if you have not already placed one there.
As Andrew has pointed out, placing your the website on these images as a watermark is an advertisement. It does not protect copyright. The law states that any image you create is automatically copyrighted, but if you would like to ensure that your images have attribution a more proper manner of doing that would be to place "©Marcus _______ 2014" in place of your web address. But even that will not ensure anything since anyone with the least bit of photoshop knowledge can either crop out you watermark or remove it in a single key stroke as i have done with the example below.

Thumbs down Moderator Action

I have deleted all the photos from this thread.

If you want to post photos here and receive the benefit of the membership's experience and knowledge, complying with the rules (rather than debating them) would be advised.

This is a simple request. Honor it if you wish.

I WOULD THINK IN MOST CASES THERE WAS NO INTENT TO PLACE ADVERTIZEMENTS, USURP COPYRIGHTS OR BREAK ANY LAWS. LAWS ARE OFTEN GOOD BUT IF EVERY LAW IN EXHISTANCE IS STRICKTLY ENFORCED IN ALL ITS MANY INTERPRETATIONS IT IS LIKELY ALL WE WOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO WOULD BE TO SIT IN THE DARK IN SILENCE.
ONE OF THE MODERATORS JOBS IS TO DECIDE WHERE THERE IS A POSSIBLE LEGAL PROBLEM AND WHEN IT IS UNLIKELY TO CAUSE PROBLEMS AND RESPOND APPROPRIATELY. I DON'T HAVE THE LEGAL KNOWLEGE TO MAKE SUCH DECISIONS AND NO DOUBT THERE ARE TROUBLE MAKERS WITH MORE KNOWLEGE WHO COULD BUMFUZZLE ME EASILY SO THEREFORE I AM NOT MODERATOR MATERIAL.
MODERATION OF MEMBERS , MODERATORS AND LAWS ARE THE BEST MIX TO KEEP THE FORUMS FUN, PRODUCTIVE AND FREE. GOOD LUCK TO US ALL.
